Lachung + Yumthang Valley + Zero Point (2N/3D)
Day 1: Gangtok to Lachung (~6–7 hours, with stops at waterfalls and Chungthang). Day 2: early drive to Yumthang Valley (the “Valley of Flowers”) and, snow and permits allowing, Zero Point, then back to Lachung. Day 3: return to Gangtok.
Lachen + Gurudongmar + Lachung (3N/4D)
Adds a night at Lachen and a very early, high-altitude drive to Gurudongmar Lake (~17,800 ft), one of the highest lakes in the world, before continuing to Lachung and Yumthang. Gurudongmar is restricted to Indian nationals.
What you should know before booking
- Permits are mandatory and are issued against a registered operator's confirmed itinerary using a Sikkim-registered vehicle — you cannot self-drive here.
- Altitude is serious. Yumthang is ~11,800 ft, Zero Point ~15,300 ft, Gurudongmar ~17,800 ft. Ascend gradually and skip these if you have heart, lung or blood-pressure concerns.
- Weather rules the roads. Snow, landslides and Army/administration decisions can close Zero Point, Gurudongmar or whole sections at short notice — no operator can guarantee access on a given day.
- Overnight stays are fixed at Lachung/Lachen (local lodges); the region is remote with limited connectivity.
- Vehicle: beyond Chungthang the roads are rough — sturdy SUVs are the norm for the high sections.
